Top 3 Skin Concerns & How to Treat Them

At Bare Medical Spa + Laser Center, we’re equipped to treat a wide array of concerns. Here are the top three problem areas we hear about every day, and treatments to help you feel like the most confident version of yourself!

1- Under Eye Bags & Circles
Skin pigmentation, blood vessels visible under thin skin, and volume loss all contribute to under-eye circles. Depending on your genetics, amount of sun damage and lifestyle, dark circles could be caused by one of these things or all three! Most often, we combine treatments for the best outcome.

PDO Threading

PDO threading is your solution to thin skin and fine lines under the eye. PDO threads are made of a dissolvable filament that is placed under the skin to stimulate collagen production. The threads dissolve over 3 months but the collagen they create can last up to 2 years. Collagen will thicken the skin, lessening the appearance of fine lines and superficial blood vessels that create a purple/blue hue under the eye.

Dermal Filler

Dermal fillers, such as Restylane and Juvéderm, are used to replace volume loss under the eye which can create an unwanted shadow. Fillers are placed under the eye using a blunt tip cannula, minimizing the risk for bruising. This is usually a 2 step process that includes the first treatment and a touch up 2 weeks later. The results of under-eye filler can be seen up to 12-18 months.

Skin Resurfacing

Laser skin resurfacing is another great method to promote new collagen. Using the CO2RE fractional ablation device, we are able to ablate the top layer of skin in a uniform manner. As the skin heals, it recruits fibroblasts and collagen to help rebuild it. Increased collagen will smooth fine lines and wrinkles and create thicker, more youthful-looking skin. Additionally, skin resurfacing can help with discoloration and crows feet, making this an excellent multi-benefit treatment.

Eye Cream
If you’re not already using an eye cream, now is the time to invest. The skin around your eyes is thin and sensitive and requires an area-specific cream. Whether your concern is eye bags, dark circles, or both depending on the day, we can help. Our personal favorites are Obagi Elastiderm Cream and Obagi Elastiderm Serum.

2- Jowls
As we age, the fat pads in our midface shrink creating a flattened appearance of the cheek and allowing the skin to hang down around our nasolabial folds and jowls. In addition, skin loses elasticity creating even more droop. For many, this is an ongoing point of contention that feels impossible to resolve: luckily, it’s not. We have a few treatments up our sleeves to help you feel confident again.

PDO Threading

As we mentioned above, PDO threads are made of a dissolvable filament that is placed under the skin to stimulate collagen production. The threads dissolve over 3 months but the collagen they create can about 18 months in the midface. Special lifting threads are used in areas that have either lost volume or structure to lift skin back into place. This procedure is well tolerated under local anesthesia.

Profound

Profound is a non-surgical facelift that relies on radiofrequency to heat the skin and cause new collagen and elastin growth. The result is repaired aging skin that not only looks tighter but is firmer. The treatment is typically from the bottom of the cheekbone, down to the collar bone. Yes! It treats neck laxity too! This treatment lasts about 3-5 years.

Dermal Filler
While many think that filler is just to enhance the lips and address wrinkles, the injectable can also be used to treat jowls. Knowing that jowls are a result of midface volume loss and skin laxity, by replacing volume around the cheek area, we can prop the skin back up where it once used to be. For some patients, midface filler is all they need to fix jowls!

3- Age Spots
Getting older means you’ve likely begun to notice the effects from the sun: aka— age spots. While these brown, gray, or black spots may seem unsightly or unmanageable, we’re here to help.

IPL

IPL stands for intense pulsed light and is a great treatment to minimize or remove age spots. Using intense, visible, broad-spectrum light, age spots are heated and destroyed, leaving you with blemish-free skin.

Obagi Clear Serum
One of our favorite products, the prescription-only serum contains 4% hydroquinone, which helps correct hyperpigmentation, such as dark spots, sun spots, age spots, and other types of discoloration. Expect a healthy and even skin tone after regular use.

Resolve
Resolve is an innovative laser that significantly reduces pigmentation problems. Using a handheld device design, Resolve delivers pulses of energy to rejuvenate the skin. Similar to the technology used to remove tattoo ink, the Picoway Resolve breaks up pigment particles leaving you with a brighter complexion.

VI Peel

A VI Peel is a mid-depth chemical peel that can treat a variety of skin conditions. The Precision Plus Peel is used to reduce pigmentation issues and rid the face of age spots by tackling the problem at the cellular level.
